A Smart Application for Smart Electronics™

A 21st Century Solution for a 21st Century Problem™

Home page:

Pack-Me™ (worldwide patents pending) is an ingenious application which resides within portable electronic devices, e.g. mobile phones or hand held video games, and simply reminds the busy or forgetful traveller to “pack” itself at a user configurable time such as the morning of a hotel check-out.

Pack-me™ works by detecting when the host device is likely to be in a state of travel and hence more likely to require a Pack-me™ reminder, e.g., by detecting a change in time zone, electrical supply, or for mobile phones and GPS units, roaming status. Once ‘triggered’ in this way, the user is automatically presented with various options to set a reminder to Pack-me™ - along with any associated charger, accessory, or peripheral!

Pack-me™ was originally devised to protect travellers with portable medical devices where it is essential that all the associated accessories and chargers are kept together. In addition, however, to saving hapless users from the inconvenience and expense of forgetting to pack their electronic devices and peripherals, Pack-me™ can also address the growing environmental impact of electronic waste on our planet. With an estimated 1 billion mobile phones sold annually across the world, there is, therefore, the potential for up to 1 billion such devices, or their accompanying chargers and accessories, to be forgotten or misplaced with many ultimately destined for environmentally harmful landfill waste disposal sites. Indeed, if just one in ten consumers had to buy a spare or replacement charger (alas, you’re not the only person with a drawer stuffed full of stray chargers and cables!) - that would represent a further environmental burden of another 100 million units per year. And that’s just the environmental impact of a single segment of the overall electronics market.

Pack-me™ is designed to keep consumers, their electronic devices, chargers and peripherals… together!

Our Mission

Whether you own a mobile phone, GPS unit, or any one of a host of other modern day gadgets or medical devices, you will be acutely aware of the dependence of these technologies on chargers, cables, and other peripherals.

Just think back to the last time you forgot or misplaced any one of these peripherals and hence rendered your newly acquired ‘SMART’ Phone, really not that ‘smart’ at all. Whether you left your charger in the office, in a hotel room, or at a client’s premises, it’s really a lot more common than you think and hotels usually have drawers full of stray peripherals and chargers which people have left behind.

As a result, it seems we’ve all turned up to deliver presentations only to have to frantically run around at the last minute to borrow power for our laptops, mobile pones or PDAs, or had to get a colleague to email over a presentation which you just left behind in the hotel room.

Our mission is to avoid the inconvenience, expense, and frankly, embarrassment caused by forgotten and misplaced consumer electronics as well as to launch a positive and smart initiative against the growing impact of electronics waste on our environment.
